Computational Technologies in Educational Ecosystems

Hello Classmates, I created this blog last semester for a course on new media and learning which covered many of the same themes and issues I anticipate our class we'll cover this semester, thus it's appropriate to keep posting my thoughts to this blog. In addition I will post my evolving model of 'what's important for someone considering technology and education to know?' as well as any reflections on the course readings especially as they pertain to the transformations of my model.

To briefly explain my first model. I thought to myself well what would someone considering the role of technology in education most be interested in? Keeping with the ecosystem theme of the class title I drew a circle in the middle and threw in all the important parts or aspects of the ecosystem i could think of. Then I wrote out one word phrases of things to keep in mind about these different ecosystem components, including their "trade-offs," (i.e. between cost and purposes) their "fit" with one another (i.e. the fit between design and user), and their active categories (i.e. words that describe possible interactions such as 'designing' 'customizing' 'breaking'). I left plenty of room to add in additional words and ideas. I anticipate, however, that some reading will cause me to shift the model totally and reconceptualize its structure, but for now this structure captures the basic ideas that I would recommend a person considering technology and education to keep in mind.
